who's Betting on Asher?

August 9, 2018

Its been a little over two weeks since the most terrifying decision I have ever made and the 48 hours that followed while Asher recovered from surgery. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to remind myself that we are still alive & still standing. I am not entirely sure how my heart hasn't given out yet or how my son continues to jump these hurdles he has been given with grace and ease, but here we are, almost 3 weeks post-op, doing better than we ever had.

Something that I always tell myself when I am struggling with keeping our heads above water is that in the long run, this is such a small blip in Asher's life. The hospital stays that feel endless, the countless blood draws, scans and medicine changes, the appointment after appointment after appointment, its so small compared to the long life that Asher will get to live because he is going through all of this now. That thought is truthfully the only thing that helps me sleep at night. My hope is that one day we will look back on this and Asher will never remember the struggles we went through in the first year of his life just to stay alive.

However, something I never want either of us to forget, is how many people have loved and lifted us up this year. It still blows me away how many people care about my family and our lives. I have zero doubt that it is because of all of you that we are in the place we are today.

So, I have a favor to ask (as if I haven't already asked enough from everyone).

For Asher's birthday (that is coming up way to soon), I want to make a book for him that shows him just how many people are "Betting on Asher." I am asking that if you have heard his story, said a prayer for him, sent us positive thoughts or virtual hugs, whatever it is you have done for us, grab a postcard from your city and let us know who you are and where you are from. My goal is to fill a photo album with postcards (or cards/photos/whatever you want to send), so that when Asher is older, we can remember how far his story has been heard and the prayers for him have reached.

Postcards can be sent to:
